With the effects of a pandemic, the Yachting industry is in its prime era, and chartering a yacht can sound appealing.

But then many questions come since it's new to most people; How much will it cost? What is included? Is the crew included? Can I charter without the crew? Who is representing me and who is going to help me if something bad happens? And the list goes on and on......

Today we are going to answer one of these questions with all details;

What is included when you charter a yacht?

Crewed yacht charter has two sub-conditions which depend on the region and the type of the yachts;

1. All Inclusive Crewed yacht charters (E.g. Caribbean conditions.)

These types of yacht charters include Food & Beverages ( most of the time local drinks and alcohol only), Fuel, crew food and domestic marina fees, local taxes, charter permits, etc.

For the food, you should ask for a weekly menu and agree on it before the charter in order to avoid any misunderstandings or conflicts. Specify if anyone in your group has a special diet, and/or health condition.

This applies to the itinerary as well. You should have your itinerary before the charter and Your Charter broker will be guiding you through the process.

Fuel is included for the specific duration of the time and this is always stated in your charter agreement. This is one of the best parts since you are not the expert on fuel calculation and your broker will not be onboard to make calculations with the captain.

As usual crew gratuity is excluded and you should consider this when you are making your plans.

2. Crewed yacht charter Normal conditions (E.g. MYBA conditions, CYBA conditions)

This type of yacht charter fee includes rent for yacht and crew service. TAX and the rest of the expenses are charged separately. APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance), which is approximately an extra 30% of the charter fee sent in advance for the expenses and controlled by the Captain for your charter expenses. He is also preparing a report for that and your Charter broker reconciliation with him at the end of the charter.

All the other items are extra and listed below:

FOOD&BEVERAGES: All the foods and beverages you want are extra. But you can send a list in advance and they can arrange shopping and delivery to the boat. Some owners may charge extra for these services, or some can do this for free as a courtesy. It's written in your contract that this is the crew's job to do. Therefore your broker should check expenses during reconciliation and exclude such charges.

FUEL: Fuel for Engines and generators is excluded from the charter price. Fuel for water toys (such as a tender boat, jet ski, etc.) is also excluded. Average consumption of the Engines and Generators stated on Yacht's brochure. There is also cross-check chance if you are a chartered branded yacht.

MARINA FEES: Marina fees are also another extra cost you have to consider when you are making a budget. This cost starts from 300-500 $ and goes up to a couple of thousand per night. This fee depends on the size of the yacht, the season, and the location of the marina. Your broker assures that your spot is booked asap If you are going to visit places like St Tropez, or Cannes in high season.

CREW GRATUITY: A crew gratuity is customary, but is given at the Charterer’s discretion. But in general, it's between 5 to 15% of the charter fee.

DELIVERY & REDELIVERY FEE: The delivery fee applies If the charterer wishes to embark on the yacht other than its home base. Re-delivery applies also if the charterer wishes to disembark in a different place.

This fee applies if the delivery and re-delivery operation is carried out without the charter period.
